Paternoville banner vandalized

UNIVERSITY PARK — A handmade “Paternoville” banner hanging at Gate A at Beaver Stadium, which had been signed by six Penn State football players and the Nittany Lion mascot, was vandalized early Friday morning.

Despite throngs of students sleeping nearby, someone wrote in red paint “border wars” and “go bucks” across the Paternoville banner, which was to be auctioned off to benefit the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Council Dance Marathon, or “Thon,” according to Penn State police.

The word “Paternoville” — the name given the tent community of students awaiting tonight’s game with Ohio State — was crossed out in the red paint sometime between 4 and 6 a.m. Friday.

The rock monument it was affixed to had some red paint bleed through onto it, but nothing significant, police said.
