closeMIDDAY REPORT: Holding a State Patty's bill; Bellefonte hopes for repeat at Clarion; Condo joins P-O wrestling fans at states
IT WASN'T a typical Saturday in downtown State College, by many accounts.
State Patty's Day drew a crowd, even in the afternoon, and the drinks flowed.
Police were busy, as seen in increased calls and arrests. State College police went up in staffing by 50 percent.
The bill for that added staffing is $6,100, as Adam Smeltz reports today, bringing State Patty's Day back in the news just as Penn State's spring break officially begins.
Was it worth it? What do you think?
Welcome to the State Patty's debate, topping the midday report on this cold Friday. Thanks for joining us.

BELLEFONTE girls are hoping for another great trip to Clarion, site of their earlier state playoff victory.
They're only two wins away from playing at the Bryce Jordan Center next weekend -- for a state championship.
The challenge: Beat Mercyhurst Prep on SUNDAY at 2 p.m. at Clarion, then win another game next week. (Game has been postponed from Saturday due to weather concerns.)
Best wishes to the Bellefonte girls, the only local hoops team left in state action. Follow Gordon Brunskill's coverage in the Centre Daily Times and here online.

WRESTLING fans from all over are in Hershey for the state championships, and Guy Cipriano and Craig Houtz are bringing the results to you.
Among the fans is Philipsburg-Osceola's Jon Condo, who flew in from California to watch the action.
Condo, of course, is a former P-O state champ and the Oakland Raiders long snapper. He's among about 50 P-O fans cheering for senior Bo Reifer.
Other local wrestlers are doing well, and follow Cipriano's blog Bats and Mats for updates today and his full reports in Saturday's and Sunday's CDT and here online.
