closeAttorney: Burglary suspect says he doesn't remember
BELLEFONTE — A 25-year-old man Bellefonte police say is responsible for burglarizing 12 borough businesses waived more than 30 criminal charges on to Centre County Court on Wednesday prior to his scheduled preliminary hearing.
Adam M. Lucas, whose address is listed as the Centre County Correctional Facility, is accused of breaking into or illegally entering the Bellefonte businesses between April 17 and 21 and, in several instances, making off with cash and laptop computers.
Lucas told police he was intoxicated to the point he could not remember what he took from the businesses, police said.
His attorney, Kelley Gillette-Walker, said Lucas was taking medication for mental health reasons, which contributed to him essentially having waking blackouts.
“This is a period of time that is lost for him,” Gillette-Walker said. “He doesn’t remember anything in that period. If he did what he is charged with, it certainly wasn’t voluntary.”
