Driver dies in Clearfield County crash

A teenage driver of a car died Friday morning, and two juvenile passengers were seriously injured, when their car crossed into the path of an oncoming Mack dump truck in Girard Township, Clearfield County.

State police did not identify the juvenile female driver who died, nor her two passengers, who were flown from the scene of the 7 a.m. crash to Altoona Hospital.

The driver of the truck, Paul Brown Jr., of Port Matilda, sustained a minor injury, police said.

The crash happened when the 1996 Chrysler turned onto state Route 879 from its intersection with Congress Hill Road and into the path of the truck, police said. The Mack rolled onto its driver’s side upon impact and traveled about 300 feet before coming to rest, blocking both lanes of traffic, police said.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Michael Polachek.

The investigation is continuing.
