2 charged with burglarizing fraternity

Two men were caught burglarizing a fraternity in the early morning hours Tuesday, but managed to steal only a root beer before being arrested by State College police, according to court documents.

The pair were heard by a maintenance man staying at 420 E. Prospect Ave. at about 1:30 a.m. and he called police, according to court documents.

Jake R. Pollack, 20, of 1212 Seagull Lane, Cherry Hill, N.J., and Devon B. Hoffman, 19, of 104 Teresa Circle, Port Matilda, are charged with burglary, theft and underage drinking.

Both men initially tried to run, but surrendered when it became clear State College officers were gaining on them, according to court documents.

The men admitted to stealing a root beer and told officers they intended to take a composite — collection of photos of fraternitie's past and present — as a prank, police said.
