Pedestrian killed when struck by train

An Alexandria man is dead after police said he apparently tried to "beat" a train through a railroad crossing at Barree Road in Porter Township, Huntingdon County.

Shaun Hannah, 20, was walking north on Barree Road approaching the crossing about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, state police said. A Norfolk Southern train was approaching the intersection from the west.

Police said the crossing control arms were lowered and the train had sounded its horn before reaching the intersection. Hannah was seen ducking under the control arms in an attempt to cross in front of the train, and was struck by the train, police reported.

He was transported to a landing zone and was Lifeflighted to Altoona Regional Health System, where he was later pronounced dead, police report.
