An accused child rapist out of Clearfield County is in police custody after he was stopped by authorities in Kansas on Saturday for a traffic violation.
State police at Clearfield had been looking for Sherman Daniel Graham, 43, of 366 McCool Road, Frenchville, since he allegedly raped a juvenile at a location in Covington Township on Monday evening.
Police said that when the crime was discovered, Graham fled into the woods near his residence and later was thought to be driving a stolen pickup truck — taken from near the crime scene that night — that rammed through a toll gate on the Ohio Turnpike near to Maumee, Ohio.
Graham, who faces charges including rape, statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, was captured without incident by police in Kansas. He is being held there pending extradition back to Clearfield County.
