Two non-athletes face lesser charges

From CDT staff reports

In addition to charges against six Penn State football players, two non-athletes were charged with lesser offenses in the downtown incident March 31.

State College police said Bernd Imle Jr. was charged today with harassment, a summary offense, and Thomas Skalamera was charged with criminal mischief, also a summary.

The charges are related to an altercation at College Avenue and High Street that occurred between 11 and 11:30 p.m. March 31, and that police said led to a group of football invading a College Avenue apartment and assaulting some of the occupants.

Police said football player Anthony Scirrotto and a female friend were involved in the altercation with three men.

Imle told police that during the incident, he was kicked in the groin by a female, at which point he shoved her and punched Scirrotto in the face once. Scirrotto pulled his cell phone out, and Skalamera knocked it out of Scirrotto’s hand, according to a report by police. The altercation ended with Imle, Skalamera and a third friend walking toward the 600 block of East College Avenue.

District Attorney Michael Madeira said Scirrotto later attempted to file a civil complaint against a “John Doe,” who Madeira believes was Imle. However, Madeira said he has not received such a complaint.

Imle was one of the people inside an apartment at 646 East College Avenue who was treated for injuries after police said a group of football players arrived at the apartment and six forced their way in. Those six players today are facing a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges.
