Cory Stocker, general manager of Stocker Subaru, was putting together last-minute details Wednesday for the dealership’s grand opening later in the evening.
Balloons were being set up around the facility while staffers were setting up refreshments for guests.
The Subaru dealership at 1454 Dreibelbis Road made a soft opening to a VIP guest list of about 80 on Wednesday night. On Thursday when doors open at 9 a.m., the dealership will be open to the public with a celebration that will last until Oct. 31.
“We’re pretty excited for this,” Stocker said. “We’ve been working hard, and it has all come together well.”
The family-run business has been in existence since 1961, when it was started in Bellefonte by Stocker’s grandfather, Gene Stocker Sr. It’s now under management by Cory Stocker; his father, Gene Stocker Jr.; and his sister, Jamie Stocker, who works in the offices of Stocker Chevrolet.
Four years after its inception, the Chevy store moved locations to the current lot at 701 Benner Pike.
In the late 1970s, Stocker Jr. helped run the business and became a dealer operator by the late 1980s.
In 1983, Cory Stocker said, his family opened up the Subaru franchise, and it has grown steadily since then.
“We continue to study industry trends and work with how business is,” Stocker said. “We’re conscious of the industry and try to make the best decisions for ourselves and our customers.”
Another secret to success is customer service, Cory Stocker said.
“We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. That’s forefront in our mind,” he said.
