PSU grad wins online college bowl contest

David Ambruster, a Penn State graduate and employee now living in Richmond, VA, is the winner of CentreDaily.com's college bowl picking contest.

Ambruster, who has a master's degree from Penn State in 1978 and worked on his doctorate in higher education at University Park, won the contest over more than 300 entrants by correctly picking 27 bowls.

"While I read the Centre Daily Times every day on line, I really entered the contest on a whim and entered only one time. I do follow college football and even though we have lived in Virginia for the past 20 years, we are Penn State season ticket holders and avid fans," Ambruster wrote in an e-mail after learning of his win.

Ambruster works as senior vice president and managing director at Renaissance Resources, LLC in Richmond.

He said his wife, Janet, grew up in State College and graduated from State High, and then Penn State as an undergrad in 1972. She also earned a master's at Penn State.

The family moved to Virginia in 1988 but Ambruster wrote: "We have many friends in State College and always enjoy visiting and I still consider the community to be my 'real' home."

Ambruster will receive CDT books as a prize in winning the contest, which was featured throughout December until the bowl games began.
