FORMER O.W. HOUTS BUILDINGS RAZED University says it still has no plans for site
From CDT staff reports
Heavy equipment operators demolished and hauled away the former O.W. Houts buildings Tuesday. Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers said demolition will be completed by the end of July.
Regrading of the site, at West College Avenue and North Buckhout Street in State College and Ferguson Township, will be finished in September.
Powers said Penn State still has no plans for the site, though the property continues to come up in redevelopment discussions by borough and township officials.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. has a $692,500 contract for the demolition, Powers said.
Houts was founded in 1920, moved to Buckhout Street nine years later, closed in January 2008 and was sold to Penn State eight months later.
