The Daily Collegian’s board of directors Wednesday night reinstated its former news adviser, John Harvey, who was fired by the general manager last month.
The reinstatement comes after controversy and strong feelings from students and alumni over general manager Gerry Hamilton's solo decision to fire Harvey for “insubordination.”
The reinstatement is immediate, and was confirmed Wednesday by Collegian editor Rossilynne Skena.
The Collegian Alumni Interest Group had publicly called for Harvey’s return, and a statement from the Collegian’s board of editors praised Harvey’s work and urged the board of directors to look at his “passion and commitment.”
The board held hearings this week, and a three-member executive committee unanimously decided Hamilton's decision “was not supported by enough documented evidence to establish a claim of insubordination,” according to a statement from the board.
