closeWilliam Jessup University Appoints Pat Gelsinger as Chairman of the Board of Trustees
ROCKLIN, Calif. — William Jessup University announced today that Pat Gelsinger, EMC Corporation’s President and Chief Operating Officer of Information Infrastructure Products, will serve as chairman of the university’s Board of Trustees.
Effective immediately, Gelsinger will preside over the 20-member board while serving a three-year term.
“Pat Gelsinger has done an outstanding job serving in a number of volunteer positions for our university,” said Dr. Bryce Jessup, President of William Jessup University. ”We appreciate his willingness to take on this leadership position at this important time in the growth and history of our institution.”
In his role as chairman, Gelsinger will oversee the effort to select the university’s next president as Dr. Bryce Jessup prepares for retirement in May of 2010.
Previously, Gelsinger served as chairman of WJU’s Foundation Board of Trustees, which has been combined with the university’s Board of Trustees. Gelsinger succeeds Don Hinkle as board chairman.
“Having been associated with WJU for now many years, I’m both honored and energized to serve as chairman,” Gelsinger said. “Bryce’s leadership has been fantastic and I am looking forward to even greater impact from the university in the future.”
Gelsinger’s position as board chairman will be served during the university’s second phase of expansion and during the public phase of its $25 million Capital Campaign, of which $15 million has been raised to date.
“Pat’s intellect and extraordinary business management philosophies coupled with his commitment to our university ensure that he will oversee our board effectively driving the university to new levels of success,” said Joe Womack, WJU’s Vice President for Advancement.
At EMC, Gelsinger is responsible for the company’s Information Infrastructure product portfolio, including its Information Storage, RSA Information Security, Content Management and Archiving and Ionix IT management divisions. Gelsinger is a member of the Executive Office of the Chairman and reports to Joe Tucci, EMC's Chairman, President and CEO.
Before joining EMC, Gelsinger was Senior Vice President and Co-General Manager of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group, the company's largest business group accounting for more than half of Intel's annual revenue.
Gelsinger’s impressive career with Intel, the world’s largest computer chip maker, reflects his determination and hard work. He received 15 promotions in 15 years. In 1990, PC Magazine voted him “Person of the Year”. He became the company’s youngest Vice President, at age 32 and he was named as Intel’s first-ever Chief Technology Officer.
Having authored more than 20 technical publications, Gelsinger also holds six technical patents. He holds three degrees in Electrical Engineering, including an AA from Lincoln Technical Institute; a BS from Santa Clara University; and a MS from Stanford University. He received the Doctor of Letters degree from William Jessup University in 2008 in honor of his nearly 30 years of dedication and involvement with the university.
Among many outside interests, Gelsinger is an active member of his local congregation and has authored his latest book entitled, The Juggling Act: Bringing Balance to your Faith, Family and Work.
