Bellefonte will soon beef up its dining options.
Just look for the storefront at 101 S. Allegheny St. You’ll know it by the cow dressed in a tuxedo in the window.
State Burger Co. co-owners Dustin Smith and Sean Burke have discussed the possibility of opening a restaurant for three years, but didn’t form plans until 2017 when they agreed to pursue an eatery with a simple but flexible menu.
The main options will include different types of handmade burgers and fries that can be matched with breads, cheeses, toppings and sauces or be made into a salad. Other options will include veggie burgers, seafood and gluten-free foods. The setup will allow customers to “100 percent design their experience.”
“I’m a really picky person when I go out to restaurants,” Smith said. “I’m one of those people that will change a lot on a menu, so when we talked about this restaurant we decided to have people create exactly what they want. That way everyone is happy.”
Smith and Burke hope to open the restaurant in mid-October after completing renovations to the building’s walls and floor for a more rustic yet industrial feel.
Some locals have gotten a look inside after wandering into the space, curious as to what’s coming soon.
“Their reactions have been very positive,” Burke said. “It seems they’re happy to have something different downtown.”
