Thursday is the deadline for residents to move from the Hilltop Mobile Home Park in College Township, and residents and housing professionals will meet that night to continue the conversation on a community purchase of the park.
Residents of the park, off East College Avenue, were told last fall that the park would be sold and they must move, shortly after Penn State Mobile Home Park residents in Patton Township were told the same. Hilltop residents have since discussed the possibility of purchasing the park as a group, and have appeared before the College Township Council on the issue.
Indiana-based developer Trinitas Ventures requested to rezone the property — which currently only allows mobile home parks — to a higher, residential density. However, Trinitas asked for a delay for unknown reasons and has not yet appeared before the township.
Park owners Kenneth and Sharon Mayes have not commented on the situation or sale of the property. A message left Wednesday afternoon was not returned.
Never miss a local story.
Matt Rooke, Hilltop resident and president of the park’s resident association, will lead Thursday night’s brainstorming session, which will include Penn State professionals, private industry experts, local government officials, and representatives of area housing organizations.
