Day 1: Kids' sketches of mom

We asked children up to age 12, to pay tribute to their mom’s by drawing a sketch of them for Mother’s Day. Dozens responded, drawing mom with varying degrees of accuracy — lots of stick figures out there — and an abundance of love.

Some added captions: “My mom is special because she takes care of me,” wrote James Squier, a third-grader from Julian. “Mommy, I think you are speical because you are always there for me when I get hurt!” wrote Cheyenne Newman, a third-grader at Wingate Elementary School.

As promised, we picked two sketches at random to receive prizes. The first prize winner is Evan Miller, 9, of Bellefonte, who will receive a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. We’ll announce the second winner Sunday.
