I visited Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte recently and saw people feeding the ducks, children playing and a couple sitting on a bench quietly watching the activities.
Next I researched the history of the park. The Talleyrand Park Citizens Committee designed the gazebo, which was built by volunteers in 1976. The park continued to grow and be developed with the aid of donations and the efforts of nonprofit and public agencies and Bellefonte borough. A grant in 1985-86 enabled the construction
of foot bridges and more landscaping.
The Talleyrand Park Committee operates under the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association and the borough, and the Bellefonte Garden Club continues to improve and maintain the park.
Among the upcoming events in Talleyrand Park is the Sounds of Summer concert series. The concerts will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sundays at the gazebo or, in the case of rain, in the YMCA. Here’s the lineup of entertainers:
Sunday:Ancient Echoes featuring Renaissance and Celtic music, hammered dulcimer, Irish floor harp and guitar
July 5:Jay Vonada, jazz trombonist
July 12:Tommy Wareham on piano
July 19:Second Winds, oldies and Dixieland
July 26:Banjovial, Dixieland, oldies and jazz
Aug. 2:John Thompson on piano
Aug. 9:Murphy’s Junction, five-piece bluegrass, old-time folk music, country and original sounds
A special event
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the Bellefonte Community Band will hold a 25th anniversary concert in the Bellefonte Area Middle School auditorium.
The band will welcome back previous members and directors. A highlight will be world-renowned composer Andrew Balent leading the musicians in a piece written just for the band.
