A GoFundMe page was created Wednesday in an effort to raise funds in memory of Courtney McGhee.
McGhee, 41, died late Monday in Bellefonte. According to the GoFundMe page, the campaign was started by Michelle McIntosh and Janine Hindman as part of the West Branch High School Class of 1994.
“One of our own has lost her life at the hand of another, due to domestic violence,” the page said. “While we are all grief-stricken and stand side-by-side in disbelief at the news of her passing, Courtney (Dill) McGhee will never be far from our hearts.”
The fund was created to help McGhee’s daughter, according to the page, “who now must navigate the rest of her life without her parents.” McGhee is described in the campaign as kind and loving, active in her community and would do anything in the world for anyone.
Never miss a local story.
McGhee herself utilized GoFundMe in 2016 to raise funds for her nephew who had been hurt in a hunting accident.
“You do not have to be a 1994 classmate of hers to donate to this fund,” the page said. “This is open to all who loved her who feel as we do and wish to help the family out.
“We love you, Courtney… and you will be greatly missed.”
The page had already raised more than $2,000 of its $5,000 as of Thursday night. Donations will be given directly to the family, according to the page.
Anyone wishing to donate to the fund can find the campaign page at www.gofundme.com/angels-among-us-for-courtney.
According to McGhee’s obituary, a trust also has been set up in her daughter’s name: Contributions can be made to Mariah Amara McGhee, c/o Fulton Bank, 2017 N. Atherton St., State College, PA 16803.
Funeral arrangements for McGhee were finalized on Thursday. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., in State College.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. Fourth St. in Philipsburg, with Pastor Kenneth Codner officiating. Burial will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, followed by a reception to celebrate McGhee’s life at Grace Baptist Church, 3596 Penns Valley Road in Spring Mills.
