A fire started in the rear wheels area of a tractor trailer in the early afternoon April 20, 2016. The truck was traveling east on I-80 near mile marker 162 when the fire spread and engulfed the entire trailer. The road was shut down until firefighters extinguished the blaze and the scene was cleaned up.
Bald Eagle and Bellefonte area school district representatives participated in the 13th annual Polar Bear Plunge at Black Moshannon State Park. The districts went head-to-head in a friendly competition to raise money for programs at the YMCA of Centre County that also benefit their schools.
A miner in West Virginia was filmed passionately singing the national anthem before his October 10 shift in a clip which has been shared widely online. Josh Stowers performed the Star-Spangled Banner at the Mammoth Coal Company, West Virginia while his colleagues stood with their heads bowed, eyes closed and hands over their hearts. The video was shared on Facebook by Stowers’ colleague Shane Wriston, a safety worker at Alpha Natural Resources, which owns Mammoth Coal.

A dark Toyota RAV4 was traveling Thursday morning on Zion Road toward Bellefonte and stopped at a traffic signal before turning left to go on I-99 southbound, according to Spring Township police Officer Tony Roefaro.
Witnesses told police the driver of the Toyota turned left, causing a head-on collision with a Bellefonte municipal van. The Bellefonte employee was injured and taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center.
