Benner Township residents and former supervisors went before the Board of Supervisors Thursday in another push to end biosolids application in the township. The supervisors agreed to allow the formation of a township steering committee but are slow to act on passing an ordinance restricting biosolids use in the township.
As dozens of fire trucks and emergency vehicles wound through the streets of Bellefonte, the true star of Saturday’s 44th annual Logan Fire Company parade was Maddox Raptosh, 2. Maddox was named grand marshal of the parade by the fire company through the Make-A-Wish foundation.
At a Bellefonte Area school board meeting, the board appointed two people to interim leadership roles that included an interim assistant superintendent and an interim elementary school principal position. An administrator also unveiled plans for a new transgender policy.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives approved legislation that will require the government to take another look at biosolids application. State Rep. Mike Hanna said the proposal may help his legislation, House Bill 738. H.B. 738 aims to prohibit the application of biosolids in a source water protection area under a land reclamation permit for the biosolids application.
Through a joint effort by Freedom of Life Church in Milesburg and One 18 Movement, a group of about 20 volunteers helped clean up around a home in Milesburg on Tuesday before throwing a block party later that evening. Dubbed “Adopt-a-Block,” the initiative will continue until Saturday when the group will throw the largest block party at the church.
When former Bellefonte Mayor Stanley Goldman passed away Sunday, the borough lost a pillar of the community. He is remembered by friends and loved ones as a strong leader who encouraged the exchange of ideas and was always a friend to the community.
The Bellefonte Area school board will vote on a 2016-17 budget of $48.825 million. The final budget, drafted by the district’s business manager, calls for a 1 percent increase in tax millage. The board meets 7 p.m. Tuesday.
