The first capital campaign committee meeting for the Bellefonte Area School District will be Dec. 10 in the high school library.
Bellefonte Area school board President Keith Hamilton said the meeting was organized to set preliminary goals for the panel.
Last month, the committee was named to oversee funds donated by the community for a new multipurpose sports field and track complex on the high school grounds.
Hamilton said it includes himself, Superintendent Cheryl Potteiger, high school Principal Jennifer Brown, other business and community members and the family of Jeremy Herbstritt, in whose memory the facility would be named.
Hamilton said at a board meeting in October that the Herbstritt family had been the “driving force” behind developing the district’s first-ever outdoor track facility, which would include an eight-lane track; seating, ticket and vending areas; and a field in the middle of the track for multisport purposes.
It will be built on a 107-acre lot behind the high school that was purchased by the district about two years ago for $4.5 million.
After the first of the year, the committee would then meet “a couple times a month,” Hamilton said.
