The Penns Valley Area School Board accepted the resignation of board member Tina Welch at its regular meeting Wednesday.
District Superintendent Brian Griffith said Welch stepped down from the board, citing increasing work and family demands.
“Ms. Welch was a board member who contributed in a calm, thoughtful and rational way,” Griffith said. “Her efforts were always meant to build consensus without avoiding the difficult decisions made in the best interest of our students.
“She was an outstanding board member whose contributions will be greatly missed,” he continued.
Welch could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
Her term was set to expire in 2013. Griffith said the board already is moving to fill the vacant seat. The board is accepting applications through Nov. 29. Candidates will be interviewed at a public meeting after that.
Welch is the second board member to step down this year. Former President Sal Nicosia resigned from the position in March.
Nicosia, who served on the board for eight years, cited changes in life circumstances in announcing his decision to leave just months after being re-elected in November 2011. He was replaced by board member Troy Ott.
