The sweet work of some Centre Hall Elementary students would be the envy of any gingerbread man.
More than 200 gingerbread houses, a veritable cookie village, will be on display Thursday at Centre Hall Elementary.
Part of the school’s Holiday Gingerbread Open House, the structures are the original design of students from kindergarten through fourth grade, according to Penns Valley Area School District officials.
The district is inviting residents and businesses to browse the holiday treats, which will be on display from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the elementary school building.
Never miss a local story.
“It is our way to thank the community and area businesses for their positive support,” school staff said.
Choirs spreading Christmas cheer
Penns Valley Area High School’s music department is set to ring in the holiday season this week with two annual concerts.
The junior high band and chorus concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The senior high band and chorus will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both performances are free, and both held in the high school auditorium.
Students are asking for a little help from the community to wrap up the high school concert. Parents, alumni, faculty and community members are invited to join in a special performance of Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus at the conclusion of the concert.
Community choirs are also busy spreading holiday cheer at annual Christmas performances. But the Valley Choristers and Community Youth Choir are doing more than just that.
The groups are giving donations collected at their annual sacred community Christmas concert to local residents in need, according to Peggy Myers, concert organizer. The event was held Sunday at the Blessed St. Kateri Church on Penns Valley Road, west of Spring Mills.
