Those interested in regional park news should mark their calendars for April, as Oak Hall and Whitehall Road developments move forward.
First, the Whitehall Road park will begin the land development process in Ferguson Township at the April 1 Board of Supervisors meeting. The process starts there because Centre Region Parks and Recreation officials will ask for some conditional uses at the site, near the intersection of Whitehall and Blue Course Drive. Later, the plan will go to the Planning Commission for review.
Parks and Recreation Director Ron Woodhead said he hopes he’ll be planning the construction groundbreaking ceremony for this fall.
A ceremony for construction at the Oak Hall park comes first. The public, elected officials and others are invited to the short event, to take place at the park site at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25.
“That’ll be fun,” Woodhead said. “Depending on what the spring weather does, there may be work done prior to that.”
He said the contracts have been signed, and work is set to officially begin May 1, if not earlier.
Coffee and conversation
Ferguson Township residents can speak their minds on various issues and get an informal audience with township representatives during the first Coffee and Conversation event, set for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
The idea was included on a recent survey of township residents and enough identified it as a good idea that officials decided to give it a try.
The event will be at Callao Café, 434 W. Aaron Drive, and the coffee is free.
