The Penn State Mobile Home Park closed as scheduled on July 31 and, so far, the township has not received any redevelopment plans, said Manager Doug Erickson.
The park was purchased about a year ago by a group called 1752 North Atherton Street Associates. Partner Heidi Nicholas has said the group does have redevelopment plans.
Susanna Paul, of Housing Transitions Inc., said all but one of the households the organization worked with have secured housing. HTI and other area nonprofits scrambled last year to start assisting those residents and residents of the now-closed Hilltop Mobile Home Park in College Township, and those displaced after fires at the Hotel Do De in Bellefonte and this summer, after the fire at the Waupelani Heights apartments.
“Most of them are in housing where they’re on their own,” Paul said of the Patton Township park, noting a couple people were staying with family or friends.
One family still is staying at the Centre House shelter, but Paul said they are in the process of securing housing after receiving a federal Section 8 voucher.
Residents are invited to a public brainstorming session as Patton Township develops a master plan for Grays Woods Park and considers future conservation and recreation improvements.
The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Gray’s Woods Elementary School, 160 Brackenbourne Drive.
Back in March, the township supervisors awarded the master planning contract to York County-based YSM Landscape Architects for $69,075. The land for the park, 43 acres at Grays Woods Boulevard and the future Wood Thrush Way, was dedicated to the township as part of a townhome development phase.
The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Thompson Granary, 133 Mount Nittany Road. This year’s theme is “Local Delicacies with a French Flair.”
The cost is $85 per person or $680 to reserve a table for eight.
The Lemont Village Association has long wished to build handicap-accessible bathrooms for granary visitors. President Sue Smith said the group has about $55,000 of an estimated $275,000 needed for such a project.
