The Centre Area Transportation Authority will soon close its main office as a result of an upcoming expansion project, according to a recent release.
The office at 2081 W. Whitehall Road will close as of Friday. All customer-related functions will be moved to CATA’s office at 108 E. Beaver Ave. starting Monday.
The Beaver Avenue office will offer extended hours, said marketing Manager Jacqueline Sheader.
“They’ll see a little more time in the mornings and afternoons and couple of Saturday hours,” she said. “We’re expanding hours a bit to accommodate people who work during the day. It should be more convenient to riders.”
The service center is currently slated to be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Construction is scheduled for this fall for a new facility that will include a main office as well as maintenance facilities and garage room for more buses.
“Right now we have 68 buses,” Sheader said. “We can fit 50 in our garage; the rest we have to park outside.”
The new facility will allow for an expanded fleet that will include articulated buses.
Customers to the downtown center will be able to park under Schlow Centre Region Library, Sheader said. Parking is free with library validation.
