A robbery at a Patton Township business prompted a hunt for an armed man Tuesday afternoon. The suspect is still at large.
Patton Township Police Chief John Petrick said a black man in his early 20s with short dreadlocks and wearing blue jeans and a long, white T-shirt entered the Radio Shack store on North Atherton Street, showed a handgun and demanded money from employees.
“We won’t say right now if funds were exchanged,” Petrick said.
Centre County emergency dispatchers sent out calls for assistance Tuesday afternoon that told of a man with a gun running past the adjacent Weight Watchers, with officers responding that they were checking the back areas of the plaza to find the individual.
The man fled the store in the direction of Waddle Road, police said.
Petrick said officers were on the scene “rather quickly” after the first calls came in, but did not find the man.
A strip of cash register tape was stuck to the door at the Radio Shack shortly after noon Tuesday.
“Closed temporarily. Sorry,” it told customers.
The store’s employees were not authorized to speak to the media.
The manager of the Radio Shack store at the Nittany Mall said he also was not able to comment, deferring to the regional manager, who was not available at the time.
Radio Shack’s corporate media would not comment regarding an ongoing investigation.
Police continue to investigate “using every possible resource,” according to Petrick, who said they will review surveillance video.
