The State College Borough Council voted unanimously to approve the closure of one block of South Fraser Street in mid-May.
The vote came Monday as borough staff recommended the closure of the 100 block of South Fraser from May 15-18 for the “removal and dismantling of the Fraser Centre construction crane.” Closure of South Fraser will be from West Beaver Avenue to West Calder Way.
Closure of the block will also include the closure of the Fraser Street Parking Garage, Public Works Director Mark Whitfield told council. Concrete deck sealant work within the garage will begin with the May 15 closure. The garage will partially reopen May 23, fully reopening on June 6.
After May 18, the northbound lane of South Fraser will reopen, Whitfield said. The southbound lane will remained closed until mid-August when streetscape projects are completed.
The road will return to use as a two-way road once fully reopened, he said.
