A former fire captain is accused of stealing more than $6,800 of borough funds for his personal use.
John Franklin Eirich Sr., 74, was the fire police captain, secretary and treasurer for Tyrone Fire Police, according to state police at Hollidaysburg. He was arrested and charged with theft, receiving stolen property and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, all felony charges.
Police said in a release that the theft occurred from Nov. 17, 2015 to July 19, 2016.
Eirich was arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller, and was released on $35,000 unsecured bail.
His preliminary hearing is at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 4.
