A shooting death Wednesday in Clinton County was reported as a home invasion, and now officials have determined that it was a homicide.
Cody Englert, 30, of Jersey Shore, died at about 1:50 a.m. from multiple gunshot wounds at 925 Fourth St., Avis, according to state police at Lamar and Clinton County District Attorney David Strouse.
The circumstances of the homicide, according to investigators, are being examined for justification or a lack of justification.
The investigation has revealed that Englert forced himself into a home and was fatally shot by a male resident once he was inside. There is no danger to the community, according to police, who said the alleged shooter and other occupants of the home are cooperating with investigators.
No arrests have been made, and police have declined to release information about others involved in the case unless they are formally charged.
State police are leading the investigation and declined to release further details, as not to jeopardize the investigation.
