A Philadelphia man was charged early Saturday morning after he started fights with two random people, State College police said.
Nathaniel Howerton, 20, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
Sgt. Chris Hill said that around 1:30 a.m. near the 200 block of South Garner Street, Howerton approached one man and punched him. Minutes later, Howerton allegedly approached another person and threw a punch that caused bruises to the victim’s face.
When officers approached Howerton, he attempted to run, Hill said. An officer suffered scrapes to the arms when he tackled Howerton.
Howerton was remanded to the Centre Counry jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police don’t believe Howerton was a Penn State student.
