A man is charged with child endangerment after reportedly passing out at Home D Pizzeria and being unable to care for his daughter Sunday evening, State College police said.
Police were called at 10:48 p.m. to assist emergency medical services with an unresponsive man at the restaurant at 1820 S. Atherton St. Police found Michael Markley, 33, passed out in a seated position in a booth. Another man and a 4-year-old girl were at an adjacent booth, police said.
The man was a friend of Markley’s and the girl his 4-year-old daughter, police said. EMS personnel woke Markley and found him to be under the influence. He became uncooperative with both police and paramedics and had to be “forcefully” taken into custody, police said.
In addition to the misdemeanor charge of child endangerment, Markley was charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, according to court documents. Police said an active warrant from Georgia was also out for Markley. He is being held at Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 26.
The other man was also found to be intoxicated and unable to care for the child, police said, and she was taken into the custody of Children and Youth Services.
