State College police are investigating a potential ethnic intimidation crime involving a Penn State student.
According to police, at about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday a Penn State student reported having water thrown on him from a Hetzel Plaza apartment window. The student, who is of Hispanic descent, said he heard someone yell, “Go back to your homeland!”
At press time, the student had not yet spoken to detectives, Lt. Keith Robb said. Police are seeking street video and surveillance videos from the apartment building.
Due to the actions and words, the act could fall under an ethnic intimidation charge, he said — Pennsylvania’s version of a hate crime. If a suspect is found, he or she could face a third-degree misdemeanor charge.
