Several area school districts were awarded “Safe School” grants on Friday.
“Safe School” grants help fund training and compensation for school resource officers and school police officers, along with providing equipment and resources to “create a physical environment that fosters safety and well-being of students and staff,” according to a press release.
Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, said more than $100,000 has been awarded to school districts within the 171st Legislative District.
The local school districts that will receive the funding include:
Never miss a local story.
▪ Bellefonte Area School District: $30,000 Safe Schools police/resource officer grant.
▪ Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology: $60,000 Safe Schools police/resource officer grant.
▪ Mifflin County School District: $17,570 Safe Schools equipment grant.
“Providing for the safety and security of our children should be of utmost priority,” Benninghoff said in the press release. “I am pleased that tax dollars are being returned to our area to help our local schools do exactly that.”
