Bellefonte Area School District has a new face of human resources.
And it’s been several years since there’s been a person who solely runs the department.
In a unanimous decision Tuesday night, the Bellefonte Area school board approved Michelle Simpson as the district’s director of human resources.
Simpson has worked with the district since 2009 as assistant to the superintendent.
She said her duties encompassed all of what an HR director would do, in addition to other jobs.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity and support to be able to delineate the human resources department,” Simpson said. “I’m excited to serve the district, and I feel it’s an essential department to any organization.”
The last time the district had a human resources department was before her predecessor as assistant to the superintendent.
Job responsibilities will include assisting staff with information regarding benefits, time off, hiring and more.
But her goals also include recognizing staff, and helping to implement a mentoring program to help new teachers.
“We’re in a place that has a great group of administrators and staff, and they deserve to be appreciated, but there’s also room for growth,” Simpson said.
The contract is a three-year term with an annual salary of $90,000.
