A scholarship has been created in the name of the Penn State alumnus who died last year during the Pittsburgh Marathon.
The family and friends of Kyle Johnson created the scholarship, the university has announced. It’s classified as a university trustee matching scholarship.
Johnson graduated from Penn State in 2012. He went into cardiac arrest during the half-marathon competition and died from what was discovered to be an abnormality in his coronary artery system.
At Penn State, Johnson was in Lion Ambassadors, and after his death, artist Michael Pilato added his likeness to the downtown State College mural “Inspiration.”
“Kyle loved Penn State and was a proud member of the Lion Ambassadors,” Johnson’s father, Dan, said in a news release. “Our family is pleased that this scholarship will provide support for students who share his love and commitment to Penn State.”
