It's not at all unexpected -- the closing of the Rocky Mountain News in Denver.
And while it's sudden -- announced today, happens tomorrow -- it's not really too fast.
It's stunning, though. Stunning, like we've lost a friend.
You may have made a friend called Rocky when you visited Denver. I did. I visit often and I read it every day, or tried to anyway. I found it friendly and welcoming for a visitor to a great city.
I followed its work a lot and there were awards, many awards, and some great journalism.
These are tough times for newspapers, and particularly for city newspapers.
The Rocky shared Denver with the Post, making survival doubly difficult in these economic times.
Best wishes to the Rocky staffers. Their next chapter ends tomorrow, but many stories remain. Many, many stories.
