It was an honor to receive the Friend of Journalism award for the Centre Daily Times last night, presented by the Pennsylvania School Press Association.
It's always nice to get an award, but the ones with meaning are ones like this, when we're recognized for supporting scholastic journalistic excellence.
Plenty of talking heads have plenty to say about the struggles of newspapers these days, and we're like any business in a tough economy.
But readership is great and the interest in journalism by young people is still strong. The students today, in high schools and at colleges like Penn State, will help us all make the changes needed to stay strong.
No doubt some of the high school students in last night's audience at the Penn Stater will shine in journalism sometime soon.
