In a column published today on our Views page, Rep. Scott Conklin makes a strong case for a constitutional convention in Pennsylvania and wonders why Gov. Tom Corbett is backing away from his stance during the campaign.
Well Corbett is governor now, and he can propose slashing higher ed funding by 50 percent and he can ignore the gas drilling companies when it comes to tax time. A lot of of power and a lot of Republican friends in power, why would he want a constitutional convention?
It won't happen with Corbett, face it, but it didn't happen with Conklin and the Democratic majority when they held court in Harrisburg.
What goes around comes around at the Capitol, where partisan politics rule.
They might talk about reform down there, but it's all talk. Unfortunately.
