closeOn Centre: Philipsburg Baby bibliophiles born at the library

Sometimes you just have to get together with your peers— people who know the ups and downs of your life, the ones who know what it's like to be you. Even if you're a baby.
At Holt Memorial Library in Philipsburg, the littlest patrons bond and play at Baby’s Morning Out.
Sometimes this means scrambling over the train table while various moms say “That’s not what tables are for.”
Sometimes it means suffering blue paint to be brushed on your foot to make daddy a nice Father’s Day card.
And some days it means strapping in and holding on while some viral naughtiness works its way from tot to tot. (Last week, no baby was left unscathed.)
But mostly, it fosters the idea that fun and friends come together at the library, a good lesson to learn at any age.
The baby activities get hopping every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with crafts and activities planned each week.
This Tuesday the toddlers are making zipper-bag aquariums. For more information, visit www.philipsburgpa.org/events/eventsjun.shtml.
Fresh food fun
The Philipsburg Main Street Program is giving local vendors of freshly grown and homemade foods an opportunity to reach customers who want to support small producers.
The Philipsburg farmers market takes over the Moshannon Building parking lot at 200 N. Front St. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday.
The market has brought garden-fresh fruits and veggies to downtown residents and visitors since 2004.
And it’s not all about corn and tomatoes.
In addition to fresh produce, there are locally canned jams and jellies, fresh-from-the-oven baked goods and even potted plants.
If you would like to be a vendor, contact Jan McDonald at 761-8034 or e-mailmainst@philipsburgpa.org.
There is a $5 weekly vendor fee, and all vendors must have licensure and insurance.
