Philipsburg is casting a little spell on Saturday.
You may feel compelled to drive west, to come over the mountain, to join in the fun. Don't try to resist. You'll be helpless. It's Halloween, after all.
Saturday marks the Philipsburg Revitalization Corp.’s eighth annual Harvest Fest.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., booths will fill the Moshannon Building Parking Lot on Front Street. At 11:30 a.m., registration will open at the Philipsburg Towers for the Halloween parade, which will march costumed kids up Front Street to the borough parking lot on West Presqueisle Street.
The parade steps off at noon, with treats and prizes to follow at 1 N. Front St. You need more than that?
OK, haul out your paring knives and brush up on your whittling skills for the pumpkin-carving contest. Decorated and sculpted squash can be dropped off at 1 N. Front St. between 11 a.m. and noon. Prizes will be awarded after the parade.
Still not enough? How about a haunted house? There’s one of those at 1 N. Front St. from 1 to 3 p.m.
Want a little history with your hauntings? Visit the Simler House on Second Street. The Philipsburg Historical Foundation’s beautifully restored oldest structure will be open for visits from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ready to party? You’ll want to monster mash on over to the AMVETS lodge on Presqueisle Street after the parade for the annual Halloween bash for kids of all ages.
And if you want to scare up some good books, a used-book sale will be held at the new home of the Holt Memorial Library, the former M&T Bank on Front Street, giving patrons a chance to see the new space and support the library by picking up a great read.
So come to Philipsburg on Saturday. It’s so much fun, it’s spooky.
