Snow hinders egg hunters

- adanahy@centredaily.com

STATE COLLEGE — A park full of children waited for the countdown Saturday afternoon before dashing into roped off areas in search of Easter eggs in the snow.

“It’s mass chaos for like two minutes, and then it’s over,” said Beth Lee, who oversees Centre Region Parks & Recreation’s annual Easter egg hunt.

This year’s event, she said, was even more of a hunt. It took closer to five or 10 minutes for the children to find about 8,000 pastel colored eggs filled with candy and prize tickets in Orchard Park.

Cheryl Hile, of Boalsburg, gave her daughters some sage advice on using the snow to their advantage.

“I told them to look for the holes — that’s where the eggs will be,” Hile said.

According to AccuWeather, the snowy weather moved in around midnight, leaving about 3 inches across the Centre Region by morning. Meteorologist John Feerick said areas farther north got 3 to 5 inches and parts of Clearfield and Blair counties saw 6 inches of snow.

The forecast calls for sunshine today, with temperatures close to 40, Feerick said. A storm system could bring rain late Tuesday, with the possibility of a snow shower, but that is not expected to last.

Highs will reach the mid-40s Tuesday and Wednesday. The area could see a rain or snow shower Wednesday.

The Centre Region Parks & Recreation Easter egg hunt is supported by the State College Rotary Evening Club and Chocolate Madness.
