Never forget

Students’ creative works call attention to atrocity

Nine students in State College Area School District’s middle schools were honored Tuesday for their works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction essays all revolving around one theme: “Why Remember the Holocaust?”

The Holocaust Writing Competition, held each year, around Holocaust Remembrance Day, is a collaboration between Congregation Brit Shalom and the school district and its middle schools. Supporting the effort was the United Jewish Appeal and the Jewish Community Center.

We are publishing some of the winning students’ work here, and the other poems, stories and essays can be found at www.centredaily.com.

The winners of the writing competition are:

Poetry: Zack Schiffer, Jennie Walter, Halee Wasson

Fiction: Caleb Yoder, Jacob Segall, Grace Lee

Nonfiction: Emily Saylor, Tristan Wilson, Joshua Bram
