UNIVERSITY PARK — Kaboom. Sizzle. Ahhhh. That was the sound of thousands of people enjoying one of the top-ranked fireworks shows in the country under clear skies Saturday evening.
“It was really great,” said 11-year-old Taras Guanowsky, a first-time viewer of the 45-minute show. He expected “nothing like that” when he traveled to State College from Allentown with his 9-year-old brother, Yuri, and his parents.
The blasts were choreographed to a diverse soundtrack — Disney, country, “Star Wars,” James Bond and classical music.
After a day of games, food and patriotic camaraderie, the fireworks show at Beaver Stadium capped off the Central PA 4th Fest with a bang.
It was relatively calm considering most businesses gave their employees a two-day holiday, with the Fourth falling on a weekend.
There were no reports of fireworks related arrests before the show.
Jacey Stoner and her mom, Rhonda, came last year, too.
“It’s a great event,” Rhonda Stoner said. “It’s not that costly to come, plus July Fourth, what a better way.”
“Yeah,” her daughter said, “but it hurts my ears!”
