Assault case hearing delayed until August
The preliminary hearing for the 25-year-old Philadelphia man charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a State College apartment in March was continued until August while prosecutors continue to investigate.
Murad Hanif is charged with sexual assault and indecent assault after a woman reported to police that Hanif intercepted her as she was walking to her dorm room and took her back to a Hamilton Avenue apartment where he assaulted her.
Hanif’s attorney, Karen Muir, said she too is continuing to investigate the case, “and I look forward to defending this matter starting with the preliminary hearing.”
State College police arrested Hanif last week after DNA evidence showed he was most likely the woman’s assailant.

Police looking for alleged rapist of boy
State police in Philipsburg are asking for the public’s help in finding a 21-year-old Philipsburg man who they say is wanted in the rape of an 11-year-old local boy.
Steven Alexander Hartford was last known to have an address in Gettysburg, state police say, but they have an active warrant for his arrest in connection with a rape that happened between April and July of 2006 in a Philipsburg home.
There was no photo of Hartford available.
He is a white man, police say, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build and blue eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police Trooper Timothy Stevens at 342- 3370. Tips can also be submitted to Crimestoppers at 877- 992-7463.
