closeK-9 units search Rush Twp. neighborhood for unexploded fireworks
From CDT staff reports
State police used bomb-detecting dogs to search the Linnwood development in Rush Township Wednesday after a resident set off two unexploded mortar-type fireworks while mowing his lawn Tuesday.
A news release issued at 10:30 this morning by state police said results of the search are still pending.
A resident at 201 N. Linnwood Drive in Rush Township was cutting his grass with a riding lawnmower about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when he ran over a round, baseball-sized fireworks mortar. The mortar detonated, damaging the front end of his mower. He continued cutting the grass, and ran over another mortar that also detonated, blowing the grass catcher off the rear of the mower.
State police searched the yard and found, and disposed of, another unexploded fireworks.
Anyone with information on who may have been setting off such fireworks in the area recently is asked to contact state police at Philipsburg at 342-3370.
