closeBoard stands behind move of Miles Twp. first-graders
There will be no first-grade students at Miles Township Elementary School this fall.
Last month, Penns Valley school board members approved sending about 10 incoming first-graders from Miles Township to Penns Valley Elementary School. Board members said they’d reconsider the vote if enough parents opted to send their first-grade students to Miles Township. Superintendent Brian Griffith originally suggested 10 additional first-grade students at Miles Township could justify canceling the planned switch.
At Wednesday night’s school board meeting, Griffith reported that three families had volunteered to send their 2009-2010 first-grade students to Miles Township. The board took no action, thus upholding its June vote.
Miles Township will continue to have kindergarten, second-, third-and fourth-grade students.
