More than 100 Vietnam War veterans will be honored at a ceremony at 4 p.m. today at Bellefonte Area Middle School.
State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff will present certificates of appreciation and medals from the state House of Representatives to Vietnam War veterans from the 171st Legislative District.
Also taking part in the ceremony will be U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township. The keynote speaker will be retired Army Maj. Gen. Walter F. Pudlowski.
Police release composite of rape suspect
Lamar state police have released a photo composite of a suspect in the July 21 rape of a 37-year-old Centre County woman along a back road in Bald Eagle Township, Clinton County.
Police say the suspect is
black, about 5- feet 7 or 8 inches tall, with short black hair and a slight goatee. He has a coiled snake tattoo on his right forearm that was “not professional quality,” police said, as well as chipped upper and lower teeth and a “rough” Southern accent.
He has a medium build and is in his 30s or 40s, police say.
Police say he raped the woman around 6:30 p.m. along Bald Eagle Mountain Road, which is a back way to Beech Creek.
More information on the incident was not immediately available, and it wasn’t clear when the incident was first reported. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Lamar at 570-726-6000.
Forum to focus on health care system
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Penn State Outreach will host a nonpartisan health care forum focusing on the structure of the U.S. health care system and environmental factors driving the system from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
The event, which will be held in Dreibelbis Auditorium (entrance D) of Mount Nittany Medical Center, will feature speaker Dr. Chris Calkins, director of outreach health initiatives at Penn State Outreach, who has more than 25 years of experience in health care organizations and education. He has served in many roles in hospitals and health care organizations, including clinical liaison officer for Penn State Hershey Medical Center and director of special projects for Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development.
The forum is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Police look for suspect in violent burglary
State College police have one suspect and are looking for another in a burglary and assault of a man inside his 925 Bellaire Ave. apartment Friday.
Police say this happened sometime in the early morning hours and the victim was hospitalized with injuries to his face and neck. No description was available for the unknown suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 234-7150.
Phillies fan reportedly attacks man
A man reported he was kicked in the face Saturday morning on the 400 block of South Pugh Street after getting caught in a dispute between Phillies and Yankees fans.
The man said he was assaulted by a Phillies fan who was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and was about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build.

Man in hospital after trying to break up fight
A man was hospitalized with a left eye laceration after he was punched trying to break up a fight between two other men at South Pugh Street and East Calder Way this weekend.
