closeCorman won't seek Congressional seat
State Sen. Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, announced today that he will not seek the seat in Congress that will become available when Republican John Peterson retires at the end of the year.
Corman, who represents the 34th Senate District, was widely viewed as a likely candidate for the Republican party nomination to the seat, but said in a news release that family considerations made him decide to stay in the state Senate.
Corman has three young children, while the 5th Congressional District is, geographically, one of the largest in the country.
"Ultimately, as exciting as it would be to serve in the United States Congress and help shape public policy on a national level, the decision came down to what is best for my family," Corman said in the news release.
"As my former boss and dear friend Rick Santorum once said to me, 'anyone can be a United States Congressman, but only I can be my wife's husband and my children's father.'"
