Columbia Gas purchased gas rate stays same
Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania’s purchased gas cost rate gas will remain at $10.25 and the company will not file a formal quarterly gas cost recovery rate with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
The average residential customer, using 8.1 metric cubic feet per month, will pay about $115 per month, down .22 percent.
Graystone Bank’s workplace honored
Graystone Bank has received first place in the 2007 Best Places to Work competition sponsored by the Team Pennsylvania Foundation.
This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state’s economy, its work force and businesses.
Graystone has plans to move into in Centre County, and broke ground on its new two-story 15,000-square-foot regional headquarters at 1735 N. Atherton St. on Feb. 19.
The first floor, which will be known as the “Shops at Graystone,” will feature a full-service branch, drive-thru lanes and two commercial and retail spaces for tenants yet to be named.
The office is slated to open in August 2008.
Kimball to build PSU’s new softball stadium
The architecture and engineering division of L. Robert Kimball & Associates has been contracted to provide design services to Penn State for a new 1,000-seat stadium for the women’s softball team.
The stadium will be located on the University Park campus near the current softball field.
Construction will begin in November, with the first game to be played in March of 2010.
Local hospital receives two awards
Mount Nittany Medical Center has received two VHA Pennsylvania Achieving Patient Care Excellence Awards for achieving “green light status” for both myocardial infarction or heart attack and surgical infection prevention quality measures in the first quarter of 2007.
The award is designed to honor organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary levels of clinical performance.
Two Penn State bulls listed for siring
Penn State owns two bulls listed in the Spring 2008 Sire Evaluation Report published by the American Angus Association.
Issued in both the spring and fall, the new report features the latest performance information available on 5,299 sires and is accessible at www.angussiresearch.com.
Local graphics firm receives media award
State College-based Graphics & Design, a visual communications and marketing agency, received a media award from the National Association for Interpretation.
The award was given for the research, writing and design of the Black Moshannon State Park interpretive sign series, through a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources contract. The series informs visitors about the park’s unique ecosystems and heritage.
The awards are judged for excellence in the delivery of natural, cultural and historical interpretive services.
Grants available from environmental nonprofit
Community and environmental organizations located in areas served by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Columbia Gas of Maryland are encouraged to apply for grants of between $500 and $5,000 from the NiSource Environmental Challenge Fund.
The fund, a nonprofit corporation, supports local natural resource and wildlife improvement projects and related educational and recreational efforts. NiSource is the parent company of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania.
Grant guidelines and a downloadable application form are available on the NiSource web site at www.nisource.com/enviro/ecf.asp. Applications will be accepted through Thursday.
Centre Hall B&B featured in magazine
The Keller House Bed & Breakfast at 109 W. Church St., Centre Hall, is featured in the recent edition of Pennsylvania Magazine.
It is owned by Ernie and Kathy Mowery and opened in 2002.
